Under the general direction of the Director of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Academic Support provides leadership for all enrichment and remedial programs designed specifically for our diverse student population. 

These responsibilities include: individual, small group, large group and class-wide workshops on study skills, time management, test taking skills, NBME study strategies, etc. In partnership with faculty, the Well-Being program staff and the Assistant Deans for Advising and Mentoring, the Director provides necessary enrichment and remedial programs tailored to the needs of individual students, including direct academic retention services, referral to other University resources as necessary, assistance with English as a second language, program development and support for all medical students, and provides targeted support for at-risk students and students not achieving satisfactory academic progress. 


Required Skills: 
  • Masters Degree in Education-related field preferred
  • Experience providing academic support services to medical students
  • Knowledge and experience with factors interfering with standard academic performance, e. g. social, emotional, cultural, cognitive de?ciencies, allowing for differential diagnosis of various learning difficulties
  • Ability to identify students who need referral to a psychiatrist or other health care professional. Knowledge and ability to recognize students with learning differences and to make appropriate referrals for psycho-educational or neuropsychological evaluation when necessary
  • Knowledge and ability to provide counseling regarding learning and study strategies, time management, test taking strategies and compensatory strategies for at-risk students and students with learning disabilities.
