Dressing Code for Men?

Makeup for women, attire/hairstyle for men

Some may say that it is the person what matters, not the person’s appearance.  Well, others may not be on the same page with you.

Mr. K in his mid-30s started thinking about this issue recently.  He grew up with all boy siblings, went to a technology college, where male students were dominant, and currently is in a workplace, where man culture prevails.  Therefore, he was not necessarily paying attention to his look.  He went to blind dates, in careless attire.

The dates didn’t work out.  Whenever it happened, he said to himself “there is… always next time, next chance…”  When others advised about his style i.e. attire, etc., he would retort back “women fixated on appearance is no good…  Appearance is only skin-deep..”

Now, he started getting invitations to wedding ceremony from his juniors, and is invited to  the first birthday of his friends’ babies quite often.  So, he gets to think… think about those comments and advices.  Now, he is a changed man.  He is careful about wearing even socks and underwear.

Put yourself in other’s shoes.  How would you feel if your date partner looks sloppy, like you??

Mr. K is anxious to know about the dress code for his first date out, how women like about men’s attire, etc.  Ladies, please come to save this poor nice single guy!  Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Woman 1: No 70’s fashion, please.  Skinny jeans will do.  Or, just slim fit would make you look younger.

Woman 2: How about semi suit for the first couple of dates, until you get to know each other well enough.  For me, men in suit look more trustworthy.

Woman 3: It would be courteous of you to let your partner know that you will come to meet her in casual attire.  For, she might not know and come out fully dressed up, only to find you looking casual.  She’d feel really awkward.

Woman 4: It would not be good for men to overly fashion-oriented.  However, certain amount of fashion sense can be a merit to win women’s heart.

Woman 5: No golf wear, please.  That would make you look like a middle aged gentleman.

Woman 6: It all depends! I once met a guy who came to our first date in a sports uniform.  As a matter of fact, he came directly from an athletic gathering.  I didn’t feel annoyed at all.  Our dating was very comfortable.  It’d be more important to focus on getting to know each other, rather than minding what your partner puts on.

Woman 7: Women by nature check on the attire of the other, as they get some clues on the person from it,  i.e. personality, lifestyle, etc.  It would be nice to get a new cloth for the first date.  But it would be even better to try the new suit a couple of times before the date, so you may look nice and comfy in that cloth.

Woman 8: I introduced my BFF to a guy.  I was dumbfounded as he showed up in a jumper and jean.  But my friend had no problem with it.  I guess it wouldn’t matter as long as the ‘Karma’ is in the working between the two.  Still, I don’t think it proper to come to the first date in casual look.

Woman 9: Those in 20s would look good in jeans.  But as you go over mid 30s, you’d better try something else, unless you look extremely younger than your age.

Woman 10: Men may get dressed to the ninth.  But, some women might find it too much.  I think semi suit would work.  As you keep dating the lady, you may have more flexibility how you coordinate your outfit.  For example, if your date partner prefers you in jeans, you could wear jeans more often, etc.

If there are 100 individuals, there could be 100 different opinions and tastes.  How would you tell what your date partner’s taste is until you actually meet her?  I think you’d just put you in your partner’s shoes, say, how would YOU feel if your partner come to the date in such a look?  Probably the answer to this question would be THE
