특히 몇몇 사람들은 양반들이 왜 때와 장소에서 모자를 바꿔가며 쓰는지를 이해하지 못하고 특별한 의미를 담고 있는 것은 아닌지 궁금해하고 있다.

간단히 설명하자면, 조선시대 양반들은 집안에서 흑색 모자(킹덤에서 조학주 대감이 쓰는 정자관)를 쓰고 격식과 위엄을 드러냈다. 외출 때나 의례행사 등 의관을 갖추어야 할 때는 흑립(검은 갓)을 썼다. 관직자가 등청할 때는 사모를 썼으며, 내금위 등은 직급에 따라 모자가 다 달랐다. 관혼상제 때는 또 그에 따른 모자가 있었으니 조선은 모자의 나라였다.
한 트위터 사용자는 ”여기 조선 시대 모자의 종류를 모은 샘플이 있다”며 한 장의 사진을 공유하기도 했다. 해당 그림을 보면 흑립, 복건, 탕건, 사모, 정자관 등이 나름 구분하기 쉽게 표현되어 있다.
