Love? or, qualifications of love?

People, as they go out to blind dates to meet someone to get married, face a kind of dilemma.  They are not comfortable about the idea of picking date partners based on ‘what they have’ (rather than ‘who they are’).  When they are actually drawn to their dating partner, they are confused themselves, if they are drawn to this person because of the ‘qualifications’ or because of love.

L’, a woman in early 30s, is in dilemma.  She was introduced to a guy of the same age and dated him a couple of times so far.  They share things in common, i.e. hobbies, thoughts, etc. , so it’s a good thing.  However, their conversation is mostly about marriage issue and she doesn’t feel right about this - dating someone just to get married.

Love at first sight, or fatalistic love… We may enjoy watching those love stories in movies or TV dramas.  But, in reality it isn’t that gorgeous.  Feelings are important, of course.  But you need to know the person with an objective eye, before your feelings get the better of your rational thought.

Let’s hear some thoughts from singles on a blind date.

Woman 1: Blind dates are arranged with purpose of marriage in mind.  Does this mean there is no room for true romance??  I don’t think so.  If you meet the person over times with true heart, you certainly can develop true love.
Man 1: As you get older and time is ticking away, you are stressed out to get married.  At this stage, it’s hard to find romantic feelings in blind dates.
Woman 2: I prefer blind dates, because I get to have information about the person.  What is wrong with finding a person with right qualification and fall in love afterwards?
Man 2:  Blind dates or else, what counts the most is the ‘passion.’  But… as you get older, you get impatient and it’s hard to maintain your passion for true love.

Woman 3: In blind dates, qualification of person may determine success of the relationship.  But, it is not so wrong as long as you have a right mind.  Although, you mind the qualification of person, if you focus on the person per se at the same time, and you will find a true partner of your life.
Man 3: You may have 100 blind dates.  But that doesn’t mean you have better chance of getting married that those with 10 dates (I don’t mean to say that so you should stop all your endeavors and just wish someone to happen in your life!).  All that matters is your true heart in meeting the person.

It’d be ideal for you to enjoy romantic relationship and eventually get married with the person.  But, the Plan B isn’t that bad either – get married and live a married life as if you are in romantic relationship.  Minding qualification of person may not necessarily be an act of snobbism.  It can be a safety net for smooth-sailing marriage life afterwards.

Also, how about creating ‘positive’ list, rather than a ‘negative’ one?  For example, ‘diligent’  (rather than ‘not wealthy’), ‘full of wisdom’ (rather than ‘no education’), and healthy (rather than ‘no style’).
