이성을 만날 때 성격과 느낌이 중요하다고 생각한다. 이것이 흔히 말하는 이상형이라고 할 수 있다.
이상형은 다소 추상적인 개념인데, 22년 동안 결혼시킨 2만6천여명의 데이터를 분석한 결과 9가지 조건이 일정한 비율로 구성되는 것이 이상형임이 밝혀졌다.
그 9가지 조건이란 성격, 얼굴, 키, 학력, 직업, 소득, 부모의 학력, 부모의 직업, 부모의 경제력인데, 그 중 어떤 사람은 외모가 중요하고, 어떤 사람은 직업을 중시하고, 그러면서 다른 조건들이 함께 작용해서 이성을 선택하는 것이다.
이를 데이터화 해보니 남성은 성격과 얼굴, 여성은 성격과 소득을 가장 중요하게 여기는 것으로 나타났다.
흥미로운 것은 이상형 구성 요인 중에 부모의 직업, 학벌, 경제력 등이 포함된다는 것이다.
왜 이성을 선택할 때 그 부모의 조건까지 고려하는 것일까?
하지만 생각해보면 그 사람의 현재는 본인이 이룬 것 같지만, 부모의 개런티에 의해 성장하고, 부모의 영향력이 작용한 결과물이다.
예를 들어 오바마의 딸이 누군가를 사귄다고 치자. 그럴 때 아버지가 대통령이라는 것, 즉 부모의 직업과 교육수준 등이 작용해서 상대를 파악하고, 선택하지 않겠는가
상대를 파악할 때 당사자 뿐 아니라 부모로 대변되는 배경적 요인을 고려하는 것은 세계 공통의 사고방식인 것이다.

A survey was conducted for 6 years from ___ to ____, targeting at 82,147 singles in 121 countries worldwide. They were asked on 9 conditions to form an ideal spouse.
Speak of an ideal spouse, people usually say about personality, feelings, chemistry, etc. We did not settle for these abstract - and sometimes vague? concepts, and finally identified the 9 elements after analyzing data provided by 26,000+ participants who got married through us during the past 22 years.
The 9 elements are personality, face, height, education, occupation, income, parents' education, parents' occupation, and parents' wealth.
The major finding was: Men look for personality and face, while women consider personality and income.
Interestingly enough, those vital elements also include parents factors such as parents' occupation and their wealth.
The reason behind it is that an individual owes pretty much of his/her present status to their parents, their supports and devotions. For example, let's assume a guy is going out with a girl who happens to be the daughter of the U.S. President. It's not hard to imagine that this girl is regarded as the President's daughter, as much as what she actually is.
After all, it seems to be a global trend that singles consider not just their match's characteristics, but their parents as well.
